Borgo Conventi Italy

Rare and ancient, an indigenous white variety and native to Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of north-eastern Italy, the Ribolla Gialla grape is well worthy of your discovery for its flavours and aromas.

Borgo Conventi

Located within Friuli-Venezia Giulia and the comune of Farra d’Isonzo, the winery (Tenuta) Borgo Conventi since its short history from 1975 have been producing with passion excellence in wines both still and also sparkling.

The state-of-the-art winery of Tenuta Borgo Conventi, is housed in a farm building that was renovated in 1990.  The winery currently produces over 300,000 bottles of wine a year.

An award winning (silver medal in the ‘Light & Fruity’ category of the 2020 Glass of Bubbly Awards) sparkling wine is produced from this winery, the Ribolla Gialla (2017).

I am more familiar with the Ribolla grape from my travels across the wine regions of Slovenia, the discovery of this sparkling Ribolla from the Friuli region was a real pleasure. My recent visit to the Borgo Conventi winery and their new partnership with Villa Sandi tells me that the partnership is going to delight the wine world with amazing wines and importantly for me, bubbles too.

Borgo Conventi Ribolla Gialla NV Brut (VSQ Brut Millesimato 2017) – Tasting Notes: “This fizzy wine is in fact oozing a smooth and silky texture in the palate, a dreamy white wine with an explosion of mouth watering characters thanks to the heavenly bubbles. Fresh fruity and floral aromas with a touch of yeasty characters. Soft apricot, exotic and golden apples compete for your attention. Smooth and near creamy fizz. Quite clever winemaking.
