Interesting dates in the history of Piper-Heidsieck.
1785 – Florens Louis Heidsieck founded the house in Reims.
1800 – Christian and Charles-Henri Heidsieck join their uncle.
1815 – Christian’s cousin, Henri-Guillaume Piper is involved in the family business.
1828 – After their uncle’s death, Christian and Henri-Guillaume Piper take over. Henri promotes the wine and people ask for “Piper’s Heidsieck.”
1885 – To celebrate Piper-Heidsieck’s 100th anniversary, Carl Fabergé designs a bottle of diamonds, white gold and lapis lazulli for the specially created cuvée.
1933 – A Piper-Heidsieck bottle appeared in Sons of the Desert, a Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy film.
1953 – Marilyn Monroe wakes each morning with a glass of Piper Heidsieck.
1965 – Piper-Heidsieck creates the largest bottle of Champagne in the world. Celebrated Rex Harrison’s Oscar win in My Fair Lady it was 1.82m high and contained 64 bottles of Vintage ‘59. A Melchisedech.
1968 – Piper-Heidsieck creates the world’s most expensive bottle with a re-edition of the wine loved by Marie-Antoinette.
1976 – Extraordinary weather inspires Piper-Heidsieck to create the first vintage of Rare.
1982 – Piper-Heidsieck begins sponsoring major film festivals – Cannes, Venice.
1985 – To celebrate the 200th anniversary, Van Cleef & Arpels recreate the Fabergé bottle. Valued at $1 million and escorted around the world by armed guards.
