The English Grape Fizz Cocktail https://glassofbubbly.com/the-english-grape-fizz-cocktail/ Mon, 22 Nov 2021 08:15:21 +0000 https://glassofbubbly.com/?p=65475 Over the past decade, the quality and quantity of English Sparkling Wine have massively increased, with fine English Winemakers bringing to market some delicious Sparkling Wines and outstanding vintages that have even yet to experience their best years.

This time we are exploring a Spirit made from English Sparkling Wine Grapes, let’s find out what this is and what it tastes like and see about placing it in an English Sparkling Wine Cocktail, to see if they just blend together or if they can really enhance the whole experience.

The Spirit of the Downs

This Spirit made using the English Sparkling Wine grapes Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier which are grown in and around the South Downs National Park in Sussex was made by wine merchant Michael Yeoman for the Spirit of the Downs, he used the traditional method with Champagne yeasts to make the Spirit, they are also proud to say that the Spirit of the Downs is a sustainable product.

This Handcrafted Artisan Sussex Spirit Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier Varietal Vintage 2019 is a limited edition with only 700 bottles made, so don’t wait too long if you want to try this English Sparkling Wine Grape Spirit.

Michael Yeoman, Founder, Spirit of the Downs, says; “I have been inspired by the quality of wines being produced here in the Sussex and along the South Coast to produce a range of fine spirits to complement the sophistication and quality coming out of the local area. Spirit of the Downs can be drunk on its own, over ice, with a good quality tonic as a long drink or to add complexity to a range of cocktails (as a cocktail ingredient). I am so proud of the quality that we have been able to produce, and even more proud that we have worked so closely in the traditional style with local vineyards. We are extremely excited about the future and establishing not only our brand, but a new style of drinking vintage spirits in the South of England.”

Aroma –“A delicate touch of melted dark chocolate with hints of freshly baked pastry reminding me of chocolate croissants, flakes of chocolate, apricot, and prunes on the aroma.”

Flavour – “Dry mince pie, spices, plum, raisins and apricot on the palate.”

The Sparkling Wine – Fitz

Fitz, a Sparkling Wine Made in England, but can’t be called English Fizz, a triumphant story of determination against a system, to be called English Sparkling Wine if has to be made with the Traditional (Champagne) Method, but Fitz wanted to use the Charmat (Prosecco) Method, so that’s why they say their Sparkling Wine is Made In England.

Everything about this bottle is about going against the tide and creating something new and unique, the label, with 9 crowns, but one upside down, and their name Fitz comes from Anglo‐Norman times, they found the name FitzRoy, this name in many cases was given to the illegitimate son or daughter of a king to mark their Royal parent, originally the name meant ‘Son of the king’.

If you want to find out more about this fascinating story, like the fact they’ve hidden a naughty word on their bottle, you can right here: Fitz – Sparkling Wine Made In England

Sparkling Wine and Champagne Cocktail Recipes https://glassofbubbly.com/sparkling-wine-and-champagne-cocktail-recipes/ Tue, 09 Nov 2021 01:44:26 +0000 https://glassofbubbly.com/?p=65939 Champagne cocktails are fun and easy to prepare; simple ingredients can turn even a cheap Champagne substitute into a holiday treat.

As every host or hostess knows, there can be a lot of stressful details involved in planning a party. Marvelous, festive holiday cocktails shouldn’t be one of them: Using Champagne or sparkling wine in mixed drinks or punch doesn’t require the skill level of an expert. Especially, if you are a student who hosts a party for the first time. In this case, experts from EssayWriterFree offer plenty of quick tips and easy recipes for wine cocktails are available to make the holidays a lot merrier while keeping the party-giver a lot more relaxed.

Cocktail Recipes for Dry Sparkling Wine or Brut Champagne
Many people like effervescent wine on the dry side; adding fruit juice or purée, sugar syrup or grenadine, or even a hibiscus-in-syrup or two to brut Champagne or dry sparkling wine will appeal to those with a sweeter tooth. These recipes also make wine stretch farther and add an alluring flavor to more inexpensive varieties of bubbly.

The two most traditional Champagne cocktails are probably the Bellini and the Mimosa. To make a Bellini, place one tablespoon of peach purée in a Champagne flute and then fill it with Champagne or sparkling wine. To make a Mimosa, fill the flute ¾ with Champagne or sparkling wine and then add orange juice. A dash of orange liqueur is sometimes added to a Mimosa as well.

Another extremely simple Champagne cocktail requires ½ teaspoon of sugar (or a single sugar cube) and 2 dashes of Angostura Bitters in a flute; fill with sparkling wine of choice.

Adding a dash to 1 ounce of raspberry, peach, blackcurrant, or melon liqueur to Champagne or sparkling wine is another way to perk up holiday spirits without taking too much time or effort. Many different puréed fruits also work well; if using pear or melon purée, note that these fruits turn brown fairly quickly; and should not be prepared until right before party time. Some people enjoy ginger liqueur and lemon juice in a Champagne cocktail, but this is perhaps an acquired taste.

Wild edible hibiscus flowers in sugar syrup are commercially available, and make an interesting and attractive additive to a flute of Champagne. Drop one flower into the glass, and add a dash of syrup; then fill with sparkling wine. The drink will take on a beautiful rosé hue as well as a delectable sweetness.

Two Simple Champagne Punch Recipes
These two punch recipes serve approximately 20 partygoers.

The first is sometimes called a ‘Chandon Cocktail’ after the famous French label Möet & Chandon (the company’s Brut Impérial Champagne tastes great in this one): Mix 6 ounces of orange juice concentrate and 6 ounces of limeade concentrate; slowly stir in two 12-ounce cans of club soda and two 12-ounce cans of ginger ale. Add the brut Champagne (or any dry sparkling wine you enjoy). Serve in punch cups over crushed ice.

A ‘White Sangria’ punch involves pouring a liter (4 cups) of grapefruit juice into a punch bowl; slowly add 2 bottles of dry sparkling wine or brut Champagne (Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label tastes particularly nice in this recipe) and stir gently. Serve over crushed ice in punch cups or old-fashioned glasses. Top each glass with a strawberry and a bit of soda for a cheery holiday drink.

Have plenty of fun, but always remember to drink responsibly.

Sipping in the Champagne while playing online casino games https://glassofbubbly.com/sipping-in-the-champagne-while-playing-online-casino-games/ Fri, 08 Oct 2021 00:45:01 +0000 https://glassofbubbly.com/?p=65559 Having a drink while enjoying a pleasing and unique experience playing online casino games compliments each other, especially when you know how to pick the perfect drink for the occasion, it makes the night more amazing. If you went to the casino to enjoy yourself, not caring about the money you spent, then you can opt to go for a drink or two. Shortly, we will be listing out the few drinks you should consider taking in while playing casino games.

However, if you wish to have a strategic experience with games like blackjack, and you wish to go home with some extra cash, then you should definitely be refraining from indulging in drinks.

But, if you’re visiting a casino to have fun or to organise a bachelorette party for your friends, then you take alcohol. Drinking at a casino often leads to having a fun experience especially when you take in hard liquor which will ensure you have a reckless evening that day. Tea, coffee and water, at most casinos, are often free of charge, as it helps in clearing people’s heads.

You should be staying away from hard liquor most especially if you want to have a recollection of what happened at the table. So, in this article, Matthew Jones, writer for CasinoScout.ca will be providing you with a list of drinks you can enjoy while playing casino games.

Champagne

This is the most common type of drink you’ll be seeing at a casino. Champagne is sometimes considered as a drink for celebration and popping a bottle after a win at the casino table is a great way to spend the night. Although in casinos, Champagne is seen as the best drink while playing table games, you should not be taking in much of it as it could affect your performance at the table.

Screwdriver

The screwdriver is a popular cocktail known amongst gamblers. It is famously known for being made up of orange juice and vodka, from this you can imagine how it would look and taste in your mouth. The name for this famous drink was inspired by soldiers who served in the Gulf’s Bay. Intending to improve orange juice, they decided to add vodka into it, but they couldn’t find anything to stir it, so they used a screwdriver. This drink went on to become one of the most popular drinks you can find at a casino, and it is a common option among gamblers.

Whiskey On The Rocks

Whiskey On The Rocks is also another popular drink that can be found at casinos. It can also be found as one of the free drinks at some casinos on occasions. The ‘On The Rocks’ here means being served with ice, which some considered made it better. But it depends on your personal tastes to find it better. However, it remains one of the most popular drinks being served at casinos, and you easily find it on many casino tables. It is a favourite among gamblers across the world.

Martini

Thanks to James Bond, Martini spiked high to become one of the favourite drinks you can find at a casino these days. When compared to other casino drinks, Martini looks plain as it was produced from gin and vermouth which made it simple. However, it is one of the most common beverage kinds of drinks you will find at casinos. It can mostly be seen sitting on poker tables than every other beverage at the casinos.

Gin And Tonic

Gin and Tonic is a popular drink right from time. Its popularity is not restricted to only casinos, as it is known as a favourite drink to many across the world. It is made up of a 1:1 ratio of gin and tonic water, with some mint or cucumber. It comes in different kinds of variations, like the flavoured gins, lemon drizzle, blood orange, rhubarb, pink gin and many more. When you get to a casino, you should ask for the type of flavour they have, and you can also try as many as possible to develop a favourite among them, in case you don’t have any. This drink is famous in the UK and the USA.

Cuba Libre

Also knowns as Rum And Coke, this is a simple and delicious drink popular not only in casinos but also in many countries across the globe. It is one of the best-mixed drinks you will find at a casino table.

Cocktail Sugars – Decorating Your Sparkling Cocktail https://glassofbubbly.com/cocktail-sugars-decorating-your-sparkling-cocktail/ Wed, 06 Oct 2021 07:22:05 +0000 https://glassofbubbly.com/?p=65211 Talk about going back to the ’50s and ’60s, these Cocktail Rims remind me of the reel-to-reel tapes and inside is a Cocktail maker’s dream, The Salted Rim Co has created some classic and new flavoured rims, from sugar to salt, even including a Bloody Mary and their new Santa Baby rim soon to be available.

Today I want to put them to the test, are they a novelty product or do they really deliver on an enhanced Cocktail experience?

The Salty Rim Co. was founded by husband and wife team, David & Victoria, two lovers of cocktails, wanting to add to the ultimate experience by creating something tasty and entertaining.

The Cocktails

Now let’s get down to the fun part, I’ve picked out two of their rims to experiment with, their Bronze Dust and their special Santa Baby Sugar, both Cocktails consisted of the same Franciacorta, Italian Sparkling Wine made using the Classic (Champagne) Method, the Bronze Dust also included Ratafia and the Santa Baby included Cherry Juice

Bronze Dust – The bronze dust complements the Franciacorta very nicely, along with the honey flavours coming through from the rim, the honey adds an extra sweetness from the already sweetish Franciacorta, the Ratafia with its prunes in syrup and faint oak flavours works nicely when combined with the bronze dust which has a sweetness to it, but more on an expensive delicate bite-size treat level.

Santa Baby – Cherry Juice, Sparkling Wine and this new Santa Baby sugar rim come together and creates a festive vibe which makes me think of Christmas, the fizzy cherry Juice which is already sweet in flavour, combined with the candy-cane flavour from the Santa Baby sugar rim, create a really nice afternoon cocktail to enjoy with family and friends around an open fire opening presents.

The flavours of the Sugar Rims worked really well with the Cocktails, they bestowed new flavours and enhanced some existing ones, although they have great style points, they also add to the overall tasting experience and for that reason, I look forward to using them again for future Cocktails, I am very satisfied with the quality of Salted Rim and look forward to what they deliver in the future.

The Salted Rim Collection:

#1 Classic Margarita Cocktail Slat
#2 Citrus Cocktail Slat
#3 Chilli & Lime Cocktail Salt
#4 Bloody Mary Brim Trim
#5 Best Of British Cocktail Sugar
#6 Mint Cocktail Sugar
#7 Summer Pink Cocktail Sugar
#8 Summer Blue Cocktail Sugar
#9 Brazen Red Cocktail Sugar
#10 Sunshine Yellow Cocktail Sugar
#11 Bronze Cocktail Dust
#12 Santa Baby Cocktail Sugar

Each tin contains 100g of sugar, salt, or dust and each tin also comes with a coaster for you to place your Cocktail on, I thought this was a nice touch and a welcome bonus. Each tin will cost you £9.99 and if you buy 3 or more, you get free shipping, for the price.

I am glad that these Sugar, Salt and Dust rims from Salted Rim have been brought to market, it is a great business idea to package unique flavours to be able to add an extra touch to your Cocktails, each tin delivers on their flavours perfectly, they will have 12 flavours available to purchase very soon, and hopefully even more next year, the more flavours they create the better, they have some classics like Margarita and Bloody Mary, some simple ones like Citrus and Mint which many people will enjoy and some creative ones like Best Of British and Santa Baby which go outside the box and that’s where I think they can really thrive, the more unique flavours they create, the more I’ll be returning to see how I can expand my Cocktail making ingredients.

Does Prosecco Taste Like Champagne? https://glassofbubbly.com/does-prosecco-taste-like-champagne/ Tue, 05 Oct 2021 07:34:58 +0000 https://glassofbubbly.com/?p=65152 Let’s talk about Prosecco, how it tastes, is it the cheaper Champagne option or is it an entirely different experience altogether?

Although Prosecco and Champagne are both Sparkling Wines, they are both made using different methods and different grapes, which does create two different tasting experiences.

The answer to Does Prosecco Taste Like Champagne is – No, primarily, Prosecco and Champagne have two very unique and recognizable tastes which would hardly ever cross over to the point where you might be mistaken when tasting blind.

Let’s go a little deeper and find out why they don’t end up tasting similar.

The Production Methods

The World Famous Tank Method - Stainless Steel Tanks - Wine Unfiltered

Prosecco – Prosecco is made using the Charmat (Tank) Method, which has the grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks, this method also doesn’t take as long as the Classic Method, so that’s why Prosecco will cost less than the likes of Champagne.

Champagne – Champagne is made using the Classic (Champagne) Method, which normally takes place in oak barrels and requires at least 18 months of ageing before it’s able to be packaged and sold.

Grapes

Prosecco – Prosecco is made using the Glera Grape, which is a white grape, it can also be referred to as the Prosecco Grape, as it was its original name, it was changed once the grape was brought to Italy, the EU renamed it to Glera in 2009 to allow for the protection of ‘Prosecco’ as the name of a geographically-protected wine.

Its origins probably come from the country of Slovenia in a village called Prosecco (Slovene: Prosek), now it is mostly grown for the use of producing Prosecco in the Prosecco DOCG and DOC areas, in the likes of Veneto, Conegliano, Valdobbiadene and in the hills north of Treviso. It is also believed to have been grown in Ancient Roman times.

Prosecco has to be made with at least 85% of the Glera Grape, the other 15% can be made up from the likes of Verdiso, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanche, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Bianchetta Trevigiana and Perera.

Champagne – There are 3 main grapes used in the production of Champagne, Pinot Noir and Meunier which are both black grapes and Chardonnay which is a white grape, they can also use Arbane, Petit Meslier, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris but all together they amount to less than 0.3% of plantings in the Champagne region.

Different grapes will produce different aromas and flavours, but the production methods and length of time will also affect the aromas and flavours that you will get out of your bottle of Sparkling Wine.

Aromas & Flavours

Prosecco – When you pour yourself a glass of Prosecco you normally get a light, fruity, floral and even sweet taste and aroma, it’s easy to drink and perfect for cocktails.

Aromas & Flavours:

  • Green Fruits
  • Apples – Red or Green
  • Pears
  • Tropical Fruits
  • Pineapple2904
  • Banana
  • Melon
  • Peach
  • Blossom – Yellow or White
  • Floral
  • Zesty – Lemon or Lime

Champagne – A more complex wine offering a 04bolder experience that gives you, oaky, toasty, brioche, buttery and yellow fruit flavours, some can be high in acidity or some can be silky and smooth, it is the drink you associate with money, success and joyful occasions, a drink to sometimes take your time over.

Aromas & Flavours:

  • Toast
  • Burnt Toast
  • Butter
  • Brioche
  • Croissant
  • Yellow Fruits
  • Yellow Stone Fruits
  • Green Fruits
  • Oak
  • Burnt Oak
  • Zesty – Lemon or Lime
  • Floral

So hopefully this has helped you see the difference between Prosecco and Champagne, this was just a basic explanation of the differences between the two, if you would like to find out more then please do look at any of the following articles or use the search bar at the very bottom of this page.

How Traditional Method Sparkling Wine Is Made Traditional Method, sometimes referred to as the Méthode Champenoise, is famously used to create Champagne in the Champagne region of France, but it isn’t exclusively used there.

What is Charmat Method? The Charmat Method is widely associated with Prosecco, but it isn’t just Italy that uses this method, it is also used in countries like Germany and America.

What To Expect From Tasting Champagne, Prosecco & Cava When enjoying a glass of Champagne, Prosecco or Cava, there are certain aromas and flavours that are…

The Sparkling Wine

Champagne Roger-Constant Lemaire

The history of the Lemaire family begins in Hautvillers towards the end of the 19th century, the land in which grows the vines which in turn makes their Champagne was bought by Mr. Désiré Lemaire, a gardener and a poet. It was his grandson, Roger-Constant who understood the importance of assembling the grapes according to their origin in order to create a quality champagne

Then, Brigitte Lemaire, the daughter of Roger-Constant, married Gilles Tournant who proved to be a very talented young winegrower, and together, they continue to carry on the family tradition with their children Sebastien (head of international marketing and sales) and Guillaume (winemaker).

The estate now stands with up to 12 hectares, exporting their Champagnes throughout the world under the name of Roger-Constant Lemaire.

Their grapes are all selected and harvested by hand, they use only the first press, and they choose not to use malolactic fermentation, they also interestingly fertilize their vines with organic seaweed.

Tasting Notes

Aroma – “Yellow fruits, touch nutty, baked apples in aromas.”

Flavour – “Nutty, green apples, citrus in the palate.”

Schlumberger and Bean Salad https://glassofbubbly.com/schlumberger-and-bean-salad/ Tue, 14 Sep 2021 07:15:35 +0000 https://glassofbubbly.com/?p=65057 One early morning Schlumberger awoke to some bad news, Mother Dame Durden was running low on coins, soon she would be unable to support herself and her dearest Schlumberger, so under strict instruction, Schlumberger was told to take their dear companion Milky-White the cow down to the market and sell her for some coins.

Upon Schlumberger and Milky-White’s journey to the market, they ran into an old bean seller, he claimed to have a wonderful array of magic beans, from red kidney beans to green beans, all promised to deliver a wonderful expression of flavours, he told Schlumberger, “If you wish to enjoy these magic beans and bring food home to the dinner plate for your dear mother, then all I ask in return is that cow of yours” Schlumberger was hesitant at first, but upon reflection of only wanting to bring food home, the offer was accepted.

Schlumberger and the Bean Salad

Notably, it doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as Jack and the Beanstalk and probably won’t sell as many copies, but Schlumberger has something better to offer, an array of finely crafted Sparkling Wines from Austria, we’ve had some fun with Schlumberger’s Sparkling Wines, crafting some delicious Cocktails, from a Cheesecake Cocktail, a Grinch themed Christmas Cocktail to a Strawberry Rosé Cocktail, so if you want to explore Schlumberger’s Range of Sparkling Wines then we have a lot of fun and engaging ways to help.

We put together a brief history of Schlumberger and while delving into their history I was fascinated to find out that they used to be called Champagne, although they were Austrian, this is something that would be impossible today, you can check it out here if you’re interested in learning more: Schlumberger was once known as an Austrian Champagne?

Schlumberger – Sparkling Brut Klassik – Tasting Notes

Flavour 👅 “Green fruits, minerals and citrus flavours.”

This Austrian Sparkling Wine Won a Bronze Medal in the Light & Fruity Category at the Glass of Bubbly Awards 2020.

The Bean Salad

For this magical bean salad, the only ingredients you’ll need are Red Kidney Beans, Green Beans, Butter Beans, Black Eyed Beans, Borlotti Beans, Haricot Beans, Sweetcorn, Chickpeas and Red/Yellow/Green Peppers, if you want you can also add in some Vinaigrette Dressing. That is indeed a lot of beans, maybe the trade was worth it?

Just mix them all together in a bowl, then serve on a plate or in bowls and make sure to pour yourself a glass of Schlumberger’s Brut Klassik so you can create your own pairing notes.

Pairing Notes – “It gives a good silky savoury flavour with a refreshing citrus burst from the Sparkling Wine a very clean and fresh pairing.”
