Award Winning Spring Fling Sparkling Wines

Spring is here and the flowers are blooming, it’s a great time to enjoy a glass of Sparkling Wine, especially one that won a Gold Medal in the Spring Fling category at The World’s Finest Glass of Bubbly Awards 2020.

This year Spring started on Saturday the 20th of March and it will end on Monday the 21st of June, so we have some time to really take in and enjoy this season, to smell the blossoming flowers and to see the leaves return to the trees. So what makes a Spring Fling Sparkling Wine?

All of these Gold Medal Winners will have expressed floral aromas or flavours, like roses, white, yellow, blue or any other kind of flowers, whether it be a flower fully open or one just coming to life, they might have also some blossom aromas or in some rare wonderful cases, the beautiful aroma of standing in a florist.

So let’s meet these fabulous Spring Fling Sparkling Wines, first up we’ll see the Trophy Winner in the Spring Fling category, to the judges, this Sparkling Wine from Slovenia displayed the best characteristics for the Spring Fling category.

Istenič

Istenič has one of those stories that inspire you to try, back in 1968 the family bought an abandoned farmhouse along with 0.1 hectares of vineyard, they produced their first Sparkling Wine using the traditional method, naming it after their daughter Barbara.

Fast forward to today, they now have an annual production of 200,000 bottles, Istenič is a highly respected and leading house in Bizeljsko in terms of both volume and quality, they’ve also taken home many awards including some medals from the Glass of Bubbly Awards 2020 and with 11 bottles of Sparkling Wine to choose from, you’ll definitely find one that you love, you can also still buy a bottle of their Barbara Sparkling Wine that they started all those years ago.

Zidanca Slovenec

Zidanca Slovenec is another award-winning Slovenian Sparkling Wine, with a wonderful label for the Spring Fling category.

Slovenian is a beautiful country with the world’s oldest vine at over 400 years old, over 10,000 caves and the capital Ljubljana which translates into ‘The Loved One’.

Bolney Wine Estate

Located just 14 miles from the south coast on the edge of the South Downs in Sussex, Bolney Wine Estate is a private, family owned business, it comprises of five unique vineyard sites and their head winemaker, Sam Linter is the daughter of the founders, Janet and Rodney.

When Janet and Rodney originally founded Bolney Wine Estate they first called it Bookers Vineyard.

Champagne Faniel & Fils

Champagne Faniel & Fils is located in the heart of Cormoyeux, a small rustic village in Marne, the winery is owned and run by Mathieu Faniel the winemaker, a brilliant man who has a great Champagne winery to show you around. When we visited we took a tour and went down into his cellars going under the beautiful church next door and then venturing across the street into his newest cellars, seeing the massive amount of space and stock that he has available to share with the world.

Bisol

Bisol has been around for 5 centuries since 1542 and has had 21 generations creating great tasting wine, the only time Bisol was interrupted was during the First World War, the Valdobbiadene territory (where Bisol is located) laid right on the battle lines between the Austrian-Hungarian forces and their opponents, the Italians, but in 1920 they were back on track.
