Puklavec Family Wines – From Our Family to Yours
3rd April 2020
‘The Best Things in Life Should be Shared with Others.’
Normally a wine story begins with someone planting a vine not building a wine cellar, but that is how the Puklavec story began, in the 1930s Martin Puklavec helped construct Puklavec’s current cellar.
Sadly he is no longer with us, but he left behind a loving family who has kept his vision alive.
‘Bound by our Love of Wine and our Passion for Winemaking.’
The Puklavec winery is located in Jeruzalem Ormož, in the northeast region of Slovenia, they say this wine region is perfect for growing grapes, it is at the same altitude as Burgundy and they say the latitude is comparable to New Zealand.
All the grapes they use in their wines are handpicked to maintain consistent quality.
This level of quality hasn’t gone unnoticed, their wines have even reached Buckingham Palace, where it is said that the Queen Mother was a fan of their wine.
‘There is no Excuse for not Making the Best Wines in the World.’
They say if you are ever in the neighbourhood to pop on by, whether that’s you and a few friends or a small village, they offer grape-to-wine-tours from 4 to 40 people where you will see inside the cellar Martin Puklavec built, taste some of their vintages and even more.
They have a very old vintage in their archive, a 1963 Sauvignon Blanc, which they say is still ‘fresh and fruity’ and ‘it surprises everyone who tastes it’.
