Easy to make Prosecco cocktails

The world of cocktails is constantly evolving. While we all have our favourites, each year you’ll see some cocktails disappear from the drinks scene and some established, classic recipes that still remain. From finally saying goodbye to the Instagram-worthy frosé – frozen rosé – to embracing fizz cocktails, Maria Gonzalez from Monederosmart.com helped us to reveal the top ten most popular cocktails you’ll want to be sipping this year.

10. Moscow Mule

Often served up in a stylish copper mug to keep its cool temperature, the Moscow Mule is made with vodka, spicy ginger beer and lime juice, and finished with a wedge of lime. First created in 1941, it’s since made its way into the cocktail hall of fame.

9. Aperol Spritz

This throwback cocktail is now as popular as it was back in the Fifties. To make this light, pre-dinner drink, mix Aperol, Prosecco and a splash of soda to a glass with ice. Don’t forget to finish with a signature slice of orange.

8. Margarita

The most popular tequila cocktail on the list, the margarita is traditionally made with tequila, orange liqueur and lime juice and is served with salt on the rim of the glass. Despite claims from Carlos “Danny” Herrera, owner of Tijuana restaurant Rancho La Gloria, that he was first to make it in 1938, as well as Dallas socialite Margarita Sames saying she concocted the drink when on holiday in Acapulco in 1948, no one knows who initially came up with this classic drink.

7. Espresso Martini

This well-known cocktail has been around for quite some time and was said to have been created in the Eighties by London bartender Dick Bradsell. Now seen as a sweet, boozy way to perk up post-dinner, this three-ingredient cocktail is made with vodka, espresso and coffee liqueur (usually Kahlua).

6. Dry Martini

Although it’s dropped in popularity, the classic dry martini is still frequently ordered at the bar. This beloved drink is made with one part dry vermouth and six parts gin.

5. Manhattan

Invented in the late 18th century, the classic Manhattan remains a favourite of cocktail lovers around the world thanks to its smooth delivery and bold flavour. Although bartenders often customise this cocktail, the proper way to make a Manhattan is by mixing Canadian or rye whiskey with Italian vermouth and adding a dash of Angostura bitters. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

4. Daiquiri

Making its way onto the top ten as the most popular cocktail, the Daiquiri has a simple, classic recipe that calls for white rum, simple syrup, and lime juice.

3. Whiskey Sour

Ensuring whiskey-based drinks secure two of the three top spots, the classic Whiskey Sour drink is still one of the most popular cocktails. It’s made with whiskey, sugar, lemon juice and sometimes a dash of egg white.

2. Negroni

This apéritif comprises one part gin, one part vermouth Rosso and one part Campari, plus an orange peel garnish.

1. Old Fashioned

The most popular cocktail in the world, the Old Fashioned is an American classic. Its distinctive taste is created by muddling a sugar cube with Angostura bitters, bourbon or rye, some water, and then some citrus rind.
