Billecart-Salmon Clos Saint-Hilaire

Discover the history and birth of the Clos Saint-Hilaire due to François Roland-Billecart’s initiative.

In the 1950s my grandmother set aside this park-like space with vines, flowers and fruit trees, next to our house in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, for our enjoyment. Realising this outstanding terroir’s potential, my family planted the first Pinot Noir vines here in 1964.

We called it Clos Saint-Hilaire after the patron saint of the church in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ.

No more than 3,500 to 7,000 bottles are produced each year and each is numbered.

The one-hectare Clos Saint-Hilaire meets the strictest guidelines: a single enclosed, contiguous parcel with complete wine-making facilities on site.

The 1998 vintage unveils a dazzling sparkle with antique gold highlights.

The wine’s complex censorial and mineral nose is characterised by deep grilled aromas conveyed by rich notes of ripe quince and orchard fruits.

You can detect a powerful, noble, and elegant dimension with the rare density of a magnificent year, intense and generous.
