Just a relaxing 20 minute drive North of Barcelona with views out to the deep blue Mediterranean Sea sits the Cava House Alta Allela Mirgin, a family producer of organically farmed wines in the heart of the Serralada de Marina Natural Park. A relatively young label having originated in 1991 by being purchased by current owners Josep Maria Pujol-Busquets and his wife Cristina Guillen who took ownership of the 19th century Can Genis estate that held original sixty year old vines and outbuildings… Today the winery boasts a very impressive winery, cellars (including cellars converted from old water tanks), offices and tasting room / shop area with terrace offering stunning winery and sea views.

Organic production has been the heartbeat of the winery, creating a well-balanced ecosystem that respects the native flora and fauna of the land they own (30 hectares of organic vines). They also hold the privilege of the title ‘Paraje Calificado‘* for one of its parcels of land enabling it to be a fine example of a winery that offers many flavours and qualities within one label.

We constantly want to improve and delve deeper into organic agriculture, to obtain the purest grapes and wines.

A stand out feature about this winery is its location, not only being located in a protected nature park, but that it is only 18 km from Barcelona and just 2 km from the Mediterranean Sea such that it offers wonderful views, especially from the tasting room. Alta Alella Mirgin offer wine tours to include tastings and special food pairing menus at their location – It is a ‘must visit’ for anyone on a tour of the Cava region.

If tasting is your scene then the house has a great selection of its own wines to express the flavours of the region, both its terroir and the climate. The Cava range is fresh and fruity along with great detail and flavours to their Gran Reserva and Paraje Calificado wines – Their selection of stills and natural wines takes the total labels to sample at 23.

*Paraje Calificado: Cava made from a wine produced using grapes from a particular chosen parcel which specific edaphic and micro-climatic conditions, together with quality criteria of its production and ageing create a Cava with distinctive features.
