Balfour Blanc de Blancs 2010

18th May 2014

2010 was an exceptional year for Chardonnay with perfect conditions over flowering at Hush Heath. The vineyards were pushed to the limits and picking took place at the last possible opportunity on the 21st of October. Yields were exceptionally low, therefore sugars were high, making base wines of great intensity. With this in mind a small parcel of Chardonnay from Oast House Meadow was kept aside to bottle as our first ever Blanc de Blancs (only 100 cases were made).

Vinified in a the classic Balfour manner the resulting wine is brilliant, bright white gold in colour with a soft and gentle mousse reminiscent of the Champagnes of Cramant. The nose is intense, yeasty, pepper, all-spice, herby.  Dry with a backbone of steely, lime acidity and citrus notes. Rich, well-structured and very scarce.
