Luretta: Castello di Momeliano – Piacenza Italy

25th November 2019

Luretta sparkling wines

This is a story of an old abandoned vineyard in a territory wedged between Piedmont and Tuscany that was stumbled upon in 1988. A wild cattle breeder who held a lifetime of wine tasting memories and gave birth to a dream of producing internationally acclaimed wines. A desire to succeed against fierce competition, a vision to create a legend and not rely on traditional, courage to face the many risks and investments needed to introduce Luretta to the world of wine.

Founder Felice Salamini and his family set up fifty hectares of vineyards after three years and today Lucio, Felice’s son, works alongside his father in running Luretta and following the experimenting and curiosity footsteps that the winery had in its early days. You can find Luretta today at the ancient Momeliano castle, 25 km south west of Piacenza.

Over the last few years, we have been pleased to receive Luretta labels enter The World’s Finest Glass of Bubbly Awards where they have picked up numerous awards. Below we look back on and review some of the current labels and past vintages:

Luretta 2009 Magnum On Attend Les Invites

Luretta 2009 Magnum On Attend Les Invites

Luretta ‘On Attend les Invites’ Magnum 2009 Vintage:A treat to taste the magnum from this winery, I believe this 2009 was a limited edition of 500 produced. Quite an interesting story with this winery, not so old in years though big in character and achievements. The aromas are plenty with soft red berries, toasty, savoury (cured meat almost Iberian ham). Flavours are still fresh, red berries with hints of citrus, dry raspberry, minerals and more. Still very much an orange colour over a traditional rosé colour.

Luretta ‘On Attend les Invites’ 2013 Vintage:Touch of burnt toast, summer berry fruits and salty yeast on the nose. Fine flavours that are fresh and alive with soft green / red berries and hints of lime / tangerine peel. More of an orange colouring over a rosé.

Luretta Pas Dose 2016

Luretta ‘Pas Dosé’ 2016 Vintage:Clean and crisp, ideal for gastronomic pairing. Touch of citrus, dry pastry flavours.

Luretta Principessa Blanc de Blancs

Luretta Principessa Blanc de Blancs

Luretta ‘Principessa’ Blanc de Blancs NV:Subtle sweet citrus, Canary melon and white pear on the nose. Delicate floral flavours initially with fine yellow fruits, citrus and hints of pastry / yeast. A sparkling wine that deserves to be paired with fine foods.
