Apple Day Cocktail
14th October 2020
An Apple A Day Keeps The Doctor Away is the famous saying we’ve probably all heard, but how many of you know about Apple Day?
If you’ve never been a fan of apples, then this article might not be for you, depending on if adding one to a Cocktail would change your mind or not.
Apple Day started in 1990 by Common Ground to celebrate apples and orchards, Common Ground is a charity that started in 1983 by Sue Clifford, Angela King and the writer Roger Deakin to ‘seek imaginative ways to engage people with their local environment.’
At one point there were over 10,000 varieties of apples grown across the world, at lot of them were susceptible to disease, unfortunately, so this number is not as high anymore.
It is believed that apples have been with us since the dawn of time, with us enjoying them all the way back to prehistoric times.
Most of us are aware of the Forbidden Fruit in the garden of Eden, and it is normally shown as an apple, the one piece of fruit that Eve could not resist.
The Sparkling Wine – Puklavec Family Wines
The Puklavec winery is located in Jeruzalem Ormož, in the northeast region of Slovenia, they say this wine region is perfect for growing grapes, it is at the same altitude as Burgundy and they say the latitude is comparable to New Zealand.
All the grapes they use in their wines are handpicked to maintain consistent quality.
This level of quality hasn’t gone unnoticed, their wines have even reached Buckingham Palace, where it is said that the Queen Mother was a fan of their wine.

Aroma – “Lovely green apple skins and lemon.”
Flavour – “Fresh green flavours, including prominent apple skins and fresh apple juice with a hint of lemon.”
The glass I chose made the Cocktail look more expensive and inviting, as well as allowing a lot of the aromas to shine.
