Sherbet Fizz Cocktails

Heading back to when love was free, hair was long and revolution was in the air.

Sherbet Fizzy Cocktails, I’m looking forward to these, I’m a big fan of sherbet sweets, usually eaten by dipping a lollipop or liquorice into the sherbet powder and then licking it off.

Sherbet powder gained popularity in the 19th century when it was used in water and other drinks, now it is sold as a powdered sweet normally with liquorice or in a Fun Dip.

In Australia and the UK, sherbet was and is still used as a slang word for an alcoholic drink, in most cases referring to beer, it’s more popular in Australia than in the UK now, the word was noted in a slang dictionary as early as 1890 and still appears in as an Australian slang word. “We’re heading to the pub for a few sherbets.” (meaning a few pints of beer).

The Sparkling Wine

We have a fine selection of Sparkling Wines here to accompany these Sherbet Gin Liqueurs, each country these Sparkling Wines are from are connected to each other on the map, from Slovenia, Austria and Italy.

Let’s dive into it, we’ll meet the Sparkling Wines, then the Gin Liqueur’s and finish off with the Cocktail.

Radgonske Gorice

Radgonske Gorice is the oldest Sparkling Wine producer in Slovenia, they started over 160 years ago in 1852, they produce 4,500,000 litres of wine every year, with a production that high it makes sense that Radgonske Gorice is the largest producer of Sparkling Wine in Slovenia.

Last Pancake Day we decided to make some Pancakes using a Zesty & Zingy Sparkling Wine from Radgonske Gorice, it’s definitely something to try – Making Pancakes With Sparkling Wine.

Kattus

Johann Kattus, this Austrian Sparkling Wine story started with Johann Kattus in 1857, when he started the company, he first distributed wine, Champagne, coffee, tea, tropical fruits & spirits. The Kattus Sparkling Wine range began with his son, Johann Nepomuk Kattus in 1890. There have been generations of the Kattus family running the business and it’s still going strong.

Last time I made a Cocktail with a Kattus Sparkling Wine I used their Rosé and created a Raspberry Fizz Cocktail.

Riccardo

Their story begins with the grandfather Giuseppe, a veteran from the First World War, upon his return from 1918 to 1950 he and his children produced and sold wines, then in the 1960s, his eldest son who was born in 1915 gave the opportunity for his three children to carry on the winemaking trade, with this giving way to the name RICCARDO, named in memory of the father.

One interesting thing to note, for National Meatball Day, I created a Meatball Sub and paired one of Riccardo’s Prosecco’s with it and the results were absolutely heavenly: Meatball Sub & Prosecco
