Chocolate Orange Champagne Cocktail

Orange Chocolate Cocktail

A while ago I created a cocktail that tasted exactly like Terry’s Chocolate Orange, The Perfect Tequila Sunrise Champagne Cocktail, I wanted to come back and see if I could create another one using different ingredients that tasted just as good, if not even better.

Champagne and Orange Juice is a popular cocktail choice with the Mimosa and Bucks Fizz, but to me, this has always been the very start of what Champagne cocktails have the potential to be, there is so much more you can do to create a memorable tasting experience, with each year that passes more and more Champagne and Sparkling Wine cocktails are created which helps to expand the options people have.

Today I’m returning to Champagne and Orange Juice, but in a more sophisticated way with a goal to create a Chocolate Orange experience in a glass, for this, I’m going to need help from a Classic & Elegant Champagne……Please all stand for thy Royal Highness…….

Champagne Richard-Fliniaux – Experience N°1

I had the pleasure of visiting Champagne Richard-Fliniaux last year, I got to taste their Champagnes, pair them with some delicious Chocolates and even enjoy a glass of Champagne in their vineyards in the picturesque village of Aÿ. If you’re planning the perfect Champagne road trip, then Aÿ has to be on your route and you should visit Champagne Richard-Fliniaux, you can check out our Trip To Champagne Richard-Fliniaux in case you still need convincing.

Nadège & James, this mother and son team are the powerhouse behind this amazing Champagne which has a history dating back to 1905, they don’t just make award-winning Champagne because it’s what they love to do, they also do it to honour their ancestors, they continue to elaborate their Champagnes each year to make sure they are producing the best that they can.

Champagne Richard-Fliniaux also likes to pair their Champagnes with Chocolate, a controversial topic in the Champagne & Sparkling Wine industry, so Champagne & Chocolate: Yes or No? What do you think?

Other than the fantastic name on this bottle, Experience N°1 (EX1), it also has its own unique label, created especially for them, the art is left up to you to interpret, but to me, the label shows the inner workings of what went into making this Champagne, explained in a way of a well-oiled machine, with the talented people all doing their part in allowing this Champagne to be enjoyed worldwide.

Champagne Richard-Fliniaux – Experience N°1 Tasting Notes

Aroma – “Hazelnut and lightly toasted bread with hints of yellow blossom on the aroma.”

Flavour – “Nutty with peaches, we stones and garden herbs on the palate.”

This Champagne Won a Silver Medal in the Classic & Elegant Category at The World’s Finest Glass of Bubbly Awards 2020.

The Chocolate Orange Cocktail

For this Cocktail, it is important to use freshly squeezed orange juice as bottled orange juice can sometimes overpower the Champagne flavours. As for the chocolate you use, it is up to you, try using your favourite, go for milk, dark or if you dare, white chocolate.

Ingredients

  • Champagne Richard-Fliniaux – Experience N°1
  • Chocolate – whichever kind you like best, I used dark chocolate
  • Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice

How To Make This Chocolate Orange Cocktail

  1. Melt a couple of pieces of chocolate in the microwave, wait a moment for it to cool down but don’t let it harden.
  2. Dip the rim of your glass into the chocolate.
  3. Then pour in 50mls of freshly squeezed orange juice.
  4. Top up with your Champagne Richard-Fliniaux – Experience N°1 about 125mls.

Tasting Notes “Fizzy citrus and orange initially hits the palate then from the dark chocolate a sweetness arrives finishing off the chocolate Orange taste, it doesn’t taste like Terry’s Chocolate Orange, it’s more of an Elegant Chocolate Orange, one you would find from a small chocolate maker, maybe even in the Champagne region.”

If you want to try this Cocktail or just want to try this Champagne you can buy a bottle of Champagne Richard-Fliniaux – Experience N°1 here.
